It started out as a joke around the Fallen's grim HQ (and let me tell ya, in the Fallen HQ, a joke is pretty hard to come by). A minor henchman at the dinner table got the bright idea that the Fallen needed a house pet to serve as watchdog and mascot for the team. At about that same time a small scorpion was scuttling across the food upon the table. Seeing the scorpion, another henchman picked up the arachnid by the tail and dangled it before the first henchman. Laughing, he said "Here's yer stinkin' house pet". Across the room, the dark mage Quietus noticed the exchange, and proceeded to cast a spell upon the small scorpion. The scorpion grew to huge size and promptly killed both henchmen, much to the amusement of everyone else in the room. (That was the joke part, there, or what passes for one in the Fallen HQ). As it turns out the scorpion, now called Spot, turned out to be fairly intelligent (for a scorpion) and trainable. Besides the fact that he sometimes gets out and causes havoc and eats the odd lackey, the Fallen have taken to considering Spot the household pet. |
